2011National Round 4 at Sandwell & East Park
Aaron Smith won the A Final in the 4th national round of the U.14 to become GP champion, finishing a single point ahead of the previous leader, Daniel Knights (Ipswich). Prior to this round, the final event of the season, Aaron was on 146 points, ten behind his East Anglian rival. But while Knights could only muster 14 in the B final, Aaron kept his nerve to win his 3rd National A final out of 4 to grab the full 25 points to make the final tally - Araron Smith 171, Daniel Knights 170!
Leyton Glover maintained his silver medal position in the U.18 event where he was runner up in the A final behind the competition winner Scott Millward. There was a similar fate for Arron Morgan in the U.16 event with his great rival Ashley Hill inching ahead in the ratings in the final heats leaving Arron to console himself with his "British Champion" title!. Overall the Poole youth squad had a good day and clinched the runners up spot in this half of the split competition.

2011 National Round 2 at Stockport/Bury (13th August)
Headline makers in the Youth & Girls round at Stockport were Arron Smith and Arron Morgan who won their A Finals in the U14 and U16 competitions to rise higher in the overall GP and now mount a serious challenge for individual honours. Tea-wise the rider numbers were down to 11 and Ipswich were able to clinch the overall result with Poole just holding 2nd from Sheffield.
Scoreline -Ipswich 131 Poole 95 Sheffield 91 Stockport 82 Newport 55 Wednesfield 53. This means that Poole and Ipswich share top of the table spot with the next round ironically at Ipswich!
2011 National Round 1 at Swindon/Horspath (16th July)
First day of the controversial new style competition arrangements which splits into two separate sections - a predictably unpopular decision from the comments made at Swindon and Horspath! The Juniors (U.12) were runners up to Kesgrave at Horspath, a great result considering the event clashed with the start of school holidays and only 11 of our talented young guns could make it! The Youth & Girls team were in fine form and won their event at Swindon with the final result being Poole 154 Ipswich 128 Sheffield 104 Newport 90 Wednesfield 76 Stockport 58. Leyton Glover and Aaron Smith won their A Finals. Full details to follow.

2011 BYJL National Round 2 at East Newport (30th April)
The second national round saw 32 Poole riders in action at the "Polo" - the longest trip of the 4 qualifiers and with several of the other main contenders upping their game it was great to see our U8' U10's and U12's maintain their 100% record in the Junior event.
The margin of victory in the over 12's event was more comfortable as the unbeaten competition record was maintained. Poole are now clear leaders in each of the two league tables and well on target for the national rounds.
Congratulations to Arron Morgan for winning the U16 A final after the unfortunate events of Round 1 and also to Krissie Mines, Scott Pierce, Callum Smith, Hayden Rowles, George Newman, Harry Boucher, Matt Mildon and Sam Hearn for helping Poole to achieve a rider in every A Final....fantastic! Poole are the newly crowned Champions in the most popular event in cycle speedway - the British Youth & Junior League....overhauling event leaders Kesgrave in the closing stages of a record breaking final round at East Newport.
With significantly more miles to travel than any other club in the competition, this is a magnificent result for the 57 riders who have lined up in the Seaview colours in the four regional and four national rounds....not forgetting the equally important role played by mums, dads and club officials and our sponsor Sea View Coaches.
The action at the Welsh circuit followed the usual pattern with Suffolk club Kesgrave packing the U8 and U10 age cats and moving into a big, big lead. Keeping cool, Poole started to come back in the U14's but were still 47 behind as that group completed their heats. With U16's, U18's and Girls still to race, Poole had ten riders in action but Kesgrave had none and by heat 13 of the Girls event, Kristina Mines picked up the points which saw Poole race into the lead and the coveted BYJL title to add to the prestigious British Club Championship which was won back in August.

BYJL National Round 3 (4th September).
Kesgrave 263 Sheffield 242 Poole 202 Ipswich 188 Wednesfield 172 E.Newport 171
A competition record 187 entries were in action at Wednesfield for round 3 of the National BYJL and it was certainly hard going for some of the younger Poole riders on the large Ashmore Park circuit.Hats off to Jasmine for making the long trip as our sole rep in the U8's while five of the U10's were in action with Callum, Kieran and George all showing up well. Our quartet of U12's found the going tough while Matt Mildon made it 4 wins in the U16 heats with Aaron and Harry also in fine form just a point away on 15 apiece. In the U16's, Leyton and Arron both notched 15 and took 1st and 2nd in the A final while Will Bristowe would have scored more than 9 but for an awkward tumble.
Kristina and Cerys were last out to race and their points ensured that we held on to 3rd place overall - ahead of Ipswich.
The Suffolk club moved into the lead in the national league table with just one round of the competition remaining. The withdrawal of several riders at the 11th hour and non-availability of other regulars means quite simply that unless Poole can muster the strength to better the East Anglians in round 4, it will be them rather than ourselves who will be crowned 2010 GP Champions....so make a date all you Clubnighters....September 25th at East Newport!

Hot on the heels of the National round in Suffolk, British cycle speedway's most travelled young riding squad were in action at Exeter in the 5th round of the regional competition with 24 riders in action.
George Newman won his first ever A final in the U.10's on his former home track as he along with his other six U.10 clubmates scored an important 56 point total. The U.14's proved to be the powerhouse group as Matt Mildon and Harry Boucher made it a Poole 1st and 2nd in the A and along with team-mates amassed 69 points overall. Poole are sitting nicely on top of the Regional table with one round to go at Poole in early October! A big well done everybody.

BYJL National Round 2 (14th August)
Ipswich 239 Kesgrave 232 Poole 210 E.Newport 147 Wednesfield 104 Sheffield 80
Another BYJL round and another early start for the enthusiastic youth and junior riding squad as summer holidays restricted the final total of competitors with Jay Briggs and Caris Glover making their competition debuts. With the two East Anglian clubs on the doorstep of the Gt Blakenham venue, it was always expected that sheer numbers would enable them to clinch the top two positions and the Poole target was to be top of the "travelling" clubs.
Once again our three high fliers featured strongly in A finals with Matt Mildon winning the U.14 event and Leyton Glover and Arron Morgan doing the club proud making it a Poole "One-Two" in the U.16's. As with previous rounds, this was a real team effort with every point scored by every rider helping to keep us at the top of the national table with two more rounds at Wednesfield and East Newport to go.

Further Update - Sensational debut for Poole in the National rounds of the BYJL as they sweep to victory by a 53 point margin!
Final score - Poole 236 Sheffield 183 Kesgrave 161 E.Newport 161 Ipswich 157 Wednesfield 142
Racing started at noon and finished at 10.15pm...a very long day...due to a record number of competitors. This meant that our fleet of three hire vans did not make it back home to Poole until after 0300 on Sunday morning so due apologies to families for the late return. (Clearly the competition organisers must re-look at this as it is totally unacceptable in view of the ages of riders). 27 Poole riders were in action at Swindon in the 4th and final national qualifying round and once again they delivered the top spot with some spirited racing to elevate the young squad into the national rounds for the first time. What a year it has been for the enthusiastic and talented bunch of young riders as their never say die attitude has made the big step from Tuesday clubnights to the big stage. Next stop Astley - Manchester in 3 weeks!

Congratulations for another winning performance from the Poole riders who made their way to South Wales for the 3rd round at Newport. With one more regional round remaining for clubs to qualify for the national rounds, our talented young riders are now red hot favourites to progress - see table below. The two local Welsh clubs fielded record numbers of riders and did their utmost to knock Poole off the top of the leader board but as the closing events unfolded, a superb one-two from Sam Hearn and Jake Williams in the U.18 Final put some daylight into the scoreline after the day had earlier got under way with our youngest riders - the U8 duo of Chad and Cole putting on their best performance to date. Tough on Matt Mildon in the U14's....there were very few neutrals present who did not think he deserved to win the A final......having to contend with more controversy from the usual source. Hats off for a successful debut from the Smith brothers Aaron (U14) and Callum (U10) who both made a final at the first attempt. George Newman did well to make the A final in the U10's in a big field while Leyton Glover's fortunes took a welcome turn for the better as he lead them home in the top U.16 race which also featured competition leader, Arron Morgan. Most of all this was a 27 rider effort....remember every single point counts so well done one and all!

BYJL Round 2: (8th May)
Poole 297 E.Newport 251 Horspath 189 Newport 177 Exeter 156 Southampton 76 Swindon 36 Hellingly 17
Congratulations to the 32 competitors from Poole whose joint efforts ensured our second victory in the BYJL Grand Prix series at Southampton on May 8th. Confirmation of the final points tally from the competition organisers shows the club scored a brilliant total of 297 points, 46 ahead of nearest rivals East Newport and over a hundred ahead of 3rd placed Horspath.
The youngest age group opened the procedings as the U.8 squad of Chad Wirtzfeld, Cole Corfield and Lewis Storey took to the track. For Cole and Lewis it was their competition debut and they finished 3rd and 4th in the C final while Chad followed up his promising start at Horspath by making it through to the B final where he finished in runner up position.

U.10 team ready for action!
No less than ten Seaview shirts were on parade for the U.10 event with Jay Dixon, Fraser Garnett, Elenor Hann, Harry Hiscocks, Kieren Hoare, Matthew Joliffe, George Newman, Hayden Rowles, Ryan Storey and Alex Strutt all in action. Kieren was comfortable winner of the D final with Fraser in 4th. Harry Hiscocks made it to the C final where he was 4th while Alex made it to the B Final but took a tumble and ended up 4th behind clubmate George Newman who used all his experience to win the race.
Poole fielded six of the best in the U12 group with Josh Alden, Frazer Hoare, Niall Instone, Callum Joyce, Holly Morgan and Sam Merrifield in action with Sam and Canterbury based Callum tasting BYJL action for the first time. Reaching a final in this very big group was really tough so hats off to Fraser for his D final 2nd place and to an impressive debut from Callum with a creditable C Final 3rd making the long journey from Kent well worthwhile!
Matt Mildon on the way to his A final success
In the U.14 competition the pace was hotting up but Matt Mildon was best of the bunch as he powered his way to a highly impressive A final victory against formidable opposition. Alex Lane did well to finish 2nd in the D final while there was a great debut from Pass Chatin, Oscar Schmidt and Zac Blackburn who are the most recent recruits to the growing BYJL squad. Oscar was comfortably in the lead in the D final when he lost his chain at a crucial stage of the race but he did enough to suggest he can move up the rankings. The same applies to Pass Chatin who did very well to go one grade better notching 4th in the C final.
New boys Zac, Pass and Oscar join U14s Matt and Alex
Arron Morgan takes the top prize in the U.16's final
A strong quintet of Wil Bristowe Leyton Glover Dean Hook Arron Morgan and Marcus Warwick set about their task enthusiastically in the U.16 category. Marcus showed signs of his continuing improvement with his second place in the D final while Dean was comfortable winner of the C final after picking up an unfortunate but justified exclusion in his 4th ride. Arron and Leyton cruised through to the A final as anticipated but the chances of a one-two success were dashed when Leyton was adjudged to have moved at the tapes. Fortunately Arron was not affected by the controversy surrounding that decision and lead from start to finish in the re-run to clinch his second A final of the 2010 series.
After 7 hours of almost continuous racing, the action was still thick and fast with Kristina Mines providing further evidence of her continuing improvement in the girls event by making it to the A final and finishing a creditable 4th. More success for Poole in the U.18's as Sam Hearn and Matt Elston propelled themselves into the A final where they rounded off an exceptional days' racing with first and third respectively.

Hats off to the 24 Poole riders who battled it out at Oxford in the first round of the 2010 BYJL competition - the highest number of riders the club has ever entered for a single day of the event. The outcome was our best ever placing of runners-up behind the host club Horspath and ahead of the large and strongly fancied contingent from East Newport.....a result which subsequently got even better after the event when the host club had a points deduction for use of an over age rider which means that Poole have been promoted to round winners!!
Highlights of the day were provided by our A finalists with Arron Morgan winning the U.16 event and Matt Mildon finishing second behind British Champion Louis Harvey in the U.14's with Harry Boucher also in the race. Matt Elston was 3rd in the U.18 A final but the real winners were all 24 riders - many of them competing at this level for the first time! Next stop Southampton on Saturday May 8th for round 2.
