Poole  105  Bury 74

Only some concerted morning trackwork to clear several inches of floodwater enabled this match to take place at all so full marks to those dedicated club members involved. Although the track was fully raceable after a spell of unseasonably stormy weather, the gale force wind played havoc especially at the starts.

Although Poole took the league points by a handsome margin, the League newcomers made a fight of it in the early stages, providing four of the first seven race winners. Damian Zereba was on fire from the tapes and lowered the colours of Aaron Lowey and Chris Roberts in heats 1 and 4. Poole gradually piled on the pressure and took full advantage of a Bury exclusion just before the break to establish a 51-38 half-time lead.

Bury were handicapped by the absence of British Champion Terry Norman, Steve Ward and Chris Eaton who were all unable to make the long journey South. Poole welcomed Aaron Lowey back in their line-up after an absence of 8 weeks and he duly obliged with a fine 18 points. Adam Peck had one of his best matches for Poole and Aussie duo Brad Hoppo and Daniel Pudney were a class act as a race pairing. Hats off too for Mark Everingham for picking up a bonus point in every  one of his races.

Probably the best race of the day was in heat 13 when Damien Zareba and Daniel Pudney were  battling for 3rd place. The European Champion had the better of the World Champion for three and a half laps but on the last bend, Pudney made a hard but fair challenge and although both riders parted company with their machines, Pudney was quicker to remount for the 2 points. Disappointingly the Pole failed to appear for his final race. Young Polish rider Remi Burchardt was  best for Bury while their England International Ben Scranage was rather lack lustre, failing to beat a Poole rider in 4 of his 5 races. With a full line-up, the scoreline would have been considerably closer.

Poole Scorers:

Adam Peck 18, Aaron Lowey 18, Brad Hoppo 17+1, Daniel Pudney 17+1, Mark Everingham 12+5, Chris Roberts 10+2, Richard Clanfield 8+3, Eddie Wilkins 5.

Poole made it a clean sweep in the Premier League Division 2 fixture by taking the points with 13 point victory. The visitors surrendered 24 penalty points for using three of their first team - even though those riders were second teamers covering senior absentees. By heat 10, Bury had built up a twelve point margin and things were looking ominous for the home side until heat 11 when Richard Chappell and Jessie Lamb stepped up for a match winning shared heat. Matt Chappell and Shane Cassidy put a gloss on the scoreline in the nominated heat with a 7-3 to take an 83-70 victory.  Poole scorers:- Matt Chappell 17, Shane Cassidy 12, Richard Chappell 10+2, Jessie Lamb 9, Craig Godwin 5+1, James Clanfield 3, James Wilkins 3.
